The AKU Championship Shows is a prestigious canine event held once a year and judged by Asian judges. It's the "beauty" part of the Show and dogs are judged on conformation, movement and temperament. Renowned judges from Japan, Australia and Malaysia will be adjudicating at the Championship Shows.

There’s something for every dog and dog owner!

Even if you do not have a pedigreed dog, the Companion Dog Section will have fascinating competitive events open to all dogs. E.g., Best Dressed Owner and Dog, Champion For A Day, Fastest Eater and Happiest Pooch. No matter whether your dogs are cross-breeds, mongrels, non-pedigree or purebred dogs, all can have a fun day and win prizes too!

The Obedience, Agility and Jumpers Trials will be judged by a New Zealand judge and features the dogs in action. It’s the "brains" part of the show. Watch them obey man’s commands and manoeuvre obstacles. There will be thrills and spills!

Being the final show for 2008, this show will determine the Annual titles - Dog of the Year, Obedience Dog of the Year and Agility Dog of the Year.

A good selection of trade stands will be present to show case and promote their merchandise. Good opportunity to pamper man’s best friends with treats, toys, apparel etc.

*~*Hachiko the Akita*~*

Today Georgi's Ma shared this information with Shiro and as usual, Shiro's Ma was so touched watching the video and started crying again. And would like to share this story of Hachiko the Loyal Dog. Shiro's Ma would like to thank Serene for sharing. Definitely going to catch it once it's out.

Hachiko the Loyal Dog

10th November 1923 - 8th March 1935 Akita Inu born in the city of Odate, Akita Prefecture remembered for his loyalty to his master.

In 1924, Hachikō was brought to Tokyo by his owner, Hidesamurō Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo. During his owner's life, Hachikō saw him off from the front door and greeted him at the end of the day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued their daily routine until May 1925, when Professor Ueno didn't return on the usual train one evening. The professor had suffered a stroke at the university that day. He died and never returned to the train station where his friend was waiting.

Hachikō was given away after his master's death, but he routinely escaped, showing up again and again at his old home. After time, Hachikō apparently realized that Professor Ueno no longer lived at the house. So he went to look for his master at the train station where he had accompanied him so many times before. Each day, Hachikō waited for Professor Ueno to return. And each day he didn't see his friend among the commuters at the station.

The permanent fixture at the train station that was Hachikō attracted the attention of other commuters. Many of the people who frequented the Shibuya train station had seen Hachikō and Professor Ueno together each day. Realizing that Hachikō waited in vigil for his dead master, their hearts were touched. They brought Hachikō treats and food to nourish him during his wait.

This continued for 10 years, with Hachikō appearing only in the evening time, precisely when the train was due at the station.

Here's a video extracted from the movie Hachiko Monogatari [1987].

In April 1934, a bronze statue in his likeness was erected at Shibuya Station, and Hachikō himself was present at its unveiling. The statue was recycled for the war effort during World War II. After the war, Hachikō was not forgotten. In 1948 The Society for Recreating the Hachikō Statue commissioned Takeshi Ando, son of the original artist who had since died, to make a second statue. The new statue, which was erected in August 1948, still stands and is an extremely popular meeting spot. The station entrance near this statue is named "Hachikō-guchi", meaning "The Hachikō Exit", and is one of Shibuya Station's five exits.

The Japan Times played a practical joke on readers by reporting that the bronze statue was stolen a little before 2AM on April 1, 2007, by "suspected metal thieves". The false story told a very detailed account of an elaborate theft by men wearing khaki workers' uniforms who secured the area with orange safety cones and obscured the theft with blue vinyl tarps. The "crime" was allegedly recorded on security cameras.

A similar statue stands in Hachikō's hometown, in front of Odate Station. In 2004, a new statue of Hachikō was erected on the original stone pedestal from Shibuya in front of the Akita Dog Museum in Odate.

Hachikō died on 8th March 1935 of, of filariasis (heartworm). His stuffed and mounted remains are kept at the National Science Museum of Japan in Ueno, Tokyo.

They're remaking the movie renamed as Hachiko: The Dogs' Story starring Richard Gere, Joan Allen and Sarah Roemer.
It is currently in post-production.

Here's a video of the making of Hachiko: The Dogs' Story

Akita is banned in Singapore as this breed is classified as dangerous which falls under the same category as Pit Bull. Shiba Inu looks like the smaller version of Akita Inu. Akita Inu is bred for hunting purposes, therefore their instinct for hunting is quite strong. They tends to be aggressive and dominant towards other dogs of the same gender and will show aggressive tendencies towards smaller animals. Maybe that's the reason that Singapore banned this breed. Akita Inu too fall under the Spitz category but of different characteristics.

Welcome to our newly joint Members~

~A Warm Welcome to our Members~

I'm very happy to see Japanese Spitz owners popping by, and hope you will email me the details of yourself and your pet as stated in our first post.

Details of gathering will be posted up here and hope you will register with us in order to keep track of the no. of people and dogs attending.

We're considering of a gathering for Christmas 2008 which is still under consideration and hope that suggestion of places can be given so that we can vote for it. Would prefer a place whereby the dogs can roam around and have Fun for both the owners and pooches.

I would suggest the gathering to be 1 weekend before Xmas which will be on the 20th December or 21st December. Venue will be further discussed. Time will be mid day till evening or late.

Thank you for all your support and hope that we will see more Japanese Spitz Owners join us.
